Before create a collection, the fashion designer carries out research to find or define future trends. For this, he can rely on the style offices which decipher future trends in terms of colors, textures, patterns and others. He then designs “moodboards”, ie mood boards that bring together colors, materials and other inspirations from all areas of art and related (design, architecture, photography, landscape, etc.) which will define the theme of his future.
The choice of materials
After validation of the project by the artistic direction, the designer sets out to find the fabrics necessary for the creation of the pieces from manufacturers. The materials define the drape and the final appearance of the garment. It is for this reason that he must find the fabrics before the conception stage. The fashion designer draws the models and assigns each the appropriate fabric. Once the models have been created, he sets up the collection plan. The sketches, materials and colors that will be used as well as the references and categories of each part are listed on this plan. The drawings are then reproduced on computers and sent to the model maker.
